Excessive And Hazardous Drinking Leads To Depression And Mental Health Issues, An Enabling Wife, And Inspiration For Positive Change
It took several years but Sarah eventually made up her mind that she had enough with her husband's careless and hazardous drinking. She was tired of seeing Keith come home after midnight from drinking rather than spending much needed time with the family. She was also worn-out from the DUI Keith recently got. Furthermore she was sick of making explanations for her spouse when he couldn't show up for work due to his careless drinking.
Not only this but she was anxious about the fact that their relationship was deteriorating due to Keith's abusive drinking. And lastly she was tired of the risky financial quandary into which he had placed his family due to his unhealthy and excessive drinking behavior.
One morning when Sarah was pondering what she could do about her husband's abusive drinking, she got to the point that she honestly had to do something to cut into the damaging cycle of Keith's abusive and unhealthy drinking behavior. So Sarah looked on the Internet under "alcohol treatment" and found numerous rehabilitation clinics that were all located less than forty-five miles away from where she and Keith resided.
When Sarah called each rehab center she introduced herself and said that her husband was manifesting abusive drinking behavior. She also said that her husband had a comprehensive health insurance program at his place of employment and that inpatient or outpatient alcohol rehab would be covered if a physician in the company health network prescribed the rehabilitation.
After listening to Sarah discuss her husband's unhealthy and excessive drinking, the doctor in a caring but firm manner explained to Sarah how she more likely than not contributed to her spouse's abusive drinking through the months and the years. How? Basically by minimizing his drinking behavior rather than allowing him to suffer the results of his abusive drinking behavior.
Stated in a slightly different way, the therapist stated to Sarah that she may have been accidentally enabling Keith's careless and abusive drinking behavior. The therapist also highlighted the fact that Sarah would not be able to control her husband's conduct. With the guidance and support of the rehab team at the rehab center, however, she would not only be able to learn how to refrain from contributing to Keith's careless drinking but she would also be able to learn how to encourage him to schedule an appointment at the treatment center so that he could talk about his careless and abusive drinking behavior with a therapist.
Fortunately after Sarah explained this to Keith and he saw that she was serious, he told her that he had been extremely concerned about his unhealthy and excessive drinking behavior and that he was quite comforted to hear that Sarah wanted to do something productive about his careless drinking behavior. Consequently, he made an appointment to see a healthcare practitioner at the local alcohol treatment facility.
While simply calling a rehab program does not ensure that an individual's careless drinking behavior will become a non-issue or that a person will automatically be more willing to learning about alcohol abuse facts, making an appointment is without a doubt a much needed aspect in the treatment process. And because Keith wanted to learn more about alcohol abuse statistics, about getting quality help for his hazardous and careless drinking, and about alcohol abuse and alcoholism the likelihood of a successful recovery was greatly increased.
