Umbilical hernia is a very common dog health issue in some breeds. The Pekingese, for instance, has serious issues with this condition. The disease is extremely hard to breed out as it is a recessive characteristic and includes multiple genes. Therefore, it will not be removed with a few test breedings.
Disfigurement is the main objection with this dog health condition. Bowel strangulation resulting in death is rare. Since this disease is clinically innocent, maybe it will need to be accepted in those breeds showing a high occurrence.
Dermoid Inclusion Cysts
