Cheese Cutting Board - Why Could I Want One?

To some people, purchasing a cheese cutting board might sound a little silly. Most people already own a regular cutting board so what do they require one which is specially for cheese?

That is exactly what I thought for years. I need to say that my fiance and I are big cheese consumers, but we were more than comfortable utilizing a normal cutting board and not spending the extra money to purchase one which is made for cheese (no matter how cute a Swiss cheese cutting board may look!). It just looked like a waste of money.

This went on till approximately six months ago when I saw a cheese cutting board for sale at the local grocery store. It was cute, Swiss cheese holes carved into it, and was really inexpensive. It had a cheese wire cutter and soft cheese knives.

I have to say, that the combination of the new knives and the wire cutter really helped us cut cheese more rapidly and efficiently. We also use the board to serve cheese on and we are always getting asked about it! My family certainly adore it.

Overall, I would certainly buy another one of these if faced with the opportunity. I can't believe that we went so long without one, believing that our normal board would do it fine.

One thing that you should be sure to look for in one of these is that it is non-porous. Many woods are porous and therefore can collect molds(which adore cheese) and germs. You can purchase wood boards which have been coated or finished and are therefore non-porous, or you could want to purchase one which just looks like wood though is made from plastic or silicone.
